Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 - Addis Ababa to Robe and Dinsho

FRI, AUG 28

Our Bale adventure begins with a morning domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Robe, subject to the airline schedule.

Upon arrival, we will meet our driver and continue to Dinsho, the headquarters and main entrance area of Bale Mountains National Park.

After completing park registration and meeting our local guide, we will begin a relaxed nature walk through the Dinsho area. The surrounding woodland and grassland offer opportunities to observe mountain nyala, Menelik's bushbuck, warthogs, baboons, and different bird species.

We will have enough time to enjoy the peaceful scenery, take photographs, and become familiar with the park before continuing to our accommodation in Robe or Goba. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner and rest after our first day in Bale.

Day 2 - Habera Waterfall and Dinsho Nature Experience

SAT, AUG 29

After an early breakfast, we will travel toward the Dinsho area and begin our guided hike to Habera Waterfall.

The trail takes us through beautiful highland scenery, grasslands, streams, woodland, and peaceful natural surroundings. Upon reaching the waterfall, we will have time to relax, take photographs, enjoy the sound of the water, and appreciate the landscape.

After the waterfall experience, we will stop for lunch and spend additional time exploring the Dinsho area at an easy pace. Depending on the weather and the energy of the group, we may take another short nature walk or spend time relaxing before returning to our accommodation.

We will enjoy dinner and spend our second night in Robe or Goba.

Day 3 - Sanetti Plateau, Tullu Dimtu and Harenna Forest

SUN, AUG 30

We will begin the day early and drive toward the spectacular Sanetti Plateau, one of Africa's most distinctive Afro-alpine environments.

As we cross the plateau, we will experience wide open landscapes, giant lobelias, rocky formations, alpine lakes, and breathtaking high-altitude scenery. The plateau is an important habitat for the Ethiopian wolf, so we will explore slowly and patiently while respecting the animals' natural space.

We will then continue toward Tullu Dimtu, Ethiopia's second-highest mountain. Depending on weather, road conditions, and the group's comfort at altitude, we will walk or drive toward the viewpoint and spend time enjoying the panoramic landscape.

After exploring Tullu Dimtu, we will descend from the cold plateau toward the dramatically different Harenna Forest. We will stop at selected viewpoints, have lunch, explore part of the forest, and experience the dense trees, mountain bamboo, moss-covered branches, and peaceful atmosphere.

In the evening, we will return to our arranged accommodation or stay near the Harenna Forest area, depending on the final logistics.

Day 4 - Harenna Forest Experience and Return to Addis Ababa

MON, AUG 31

We will wake up early, enjoy breakfast, and begin our final nature experience in Harenna Forest.

A guided forest walk will take us through bamboo and woodland areas. The forest is home to Bale monkeys, giant forest hogs, different bird species, and other wildlife, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The walk allows us to slow down, enjoy the sounds of the forest, take photographs, and appreciate the completely different environment found below the Sanetti Plateau.

After completing the forest experience, we will begin our drive back toward Robe. We will have lunch along the way before continuing to the airport for our return flight to Addis Ababa.

Our four-day Bale Mountains adventure ends upon arrival in Addis Ababa, leaving us with memories of waterfalls, wildlife, mountain landscapes, the Sanetti Plateau, Tullu Dimtu, and the magical Harenna Forest.

Trip Guidelines
  • This is a calm, friendly, and nature-focused group trip.
  • The itinerary may change because of weather, flight schedules, wildlife movement, road conditions, altitude, or group energy.
  • We encourage a patient, flexible, and go-with-the-flow mindset.
  • Bale's weather can be cold and unpredictable, especially on the Sanetti Plateau and Tullu Dimtu.
  • Bring warm waterproof clothing, layered clothes, and comfortable hiking shoes.
  • High-altitude areas may feel physically challenging, so we will move slowly and take breaks when needed.
  • Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Never approach, feed, disturb, or call wild animals.
  • Music should be kept at a low and respectful volume.
  • Respect fellow travelers, local communities, wildlife, and nature.
  • We follow a strict leave-no-trace principle. Everything brought into nature must be taken out.
  • Some accommodation may be simple and basic rather than luxurious.
  • Mobile network and electricity may be limited in parts of the park.
  • Activities may be adjusted or cancelled when necessary for safety.
